About Williamsburg Learning
Williamsburg Learning is a tuition-free, full-time online public school serving students in grades 6–12 across Colorado. We aim to ignite curiosity, cultivate leadership, and help students become who they are meant to be. Our model blends independent learning with live mentor support, enabling students to take ownership of their education while being deeply known, challenged, and supported.
At WAC, learning is both rigorous and flexible. Our Adventures program brings learning to life through hands-on experiences, field adventures, and community-building events, allowing students to explore, connect, and apply what they learn in meaningful, real-world ways.
Position Summary
Williamsburg Adventures (WAD) Guides support the Adventure Lead in facilitating dynamic, hands-on learning experiences. They inspire, challenge, and engage students, guiding them through activities and leading small group discussions.
Essential Duties
- Support Transformational Learning Experiences
- Facilitate meaningful, hands-on learning experiences aligned with the Williamsburg Adventures model
- Participate in and guide 1:1 conversations, group discussions, and reflection before, during, and after activities
- Attend all required online and in-person trainings (schedule provided)
- Additional remote hours may be available for grading assistance, as needed
Additional Duties
- Support Student Safety
- Maintain student safety from drop-off to pick-up
- Supervise large groups of students and ensure policies and safety procedures are followed
- Report directly to the Adventure Lead in the assigned geographic area
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 18 years old and one full year post-high school
- Outdoor and/or leadership experience preferred
- Current First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Valid and current driver’s license
- Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to provide transformational mentoring to youth
- Willingness to lead with authenticity, vulnerability, and integrity
- Energy and enthusiasm for outdoor experiences and personal growth
- Comfort using technology platforms including SIS, Canvas, Zoom, Remind, and Google Suite (training provided)
Position Structure & Time Commitment
- 10 predetermined Adventure Fridays per semester
- Typical weekly commitment is under 10 hours during adventure weeks
- Required short trainings each semester are paid
- Additional seasonal duties may offer opportunities for increased hours
- Mileage reimbursement provided for travel to and from adventure locations from your home address
Physical And Mental Requirements
- Ability to perform physical activities, including walking, hiking, running, standing for extended periods, lifting, and bending
- Ability to maintain continuous visual supervision of students
- Ability to hear and respond to students in active indoor and outdoor environment
