Advancement & Alumni Engagement Officer
This position is based in Wise, Virginia, situated in the far southwestern corner of the state near the Kentucky and Tennessee borders.
About the role
The University of Virginia's College at Wise is seeking an energetic individual who values the institution and has the skills to effectively communicate both in-person and through print, electronic, and social media to key constituents. The successful candidate will cultivate relationships with alumni and friends, engaging them in the life of the College.
The Advancement & Alumni Engagement Officer will coordinate all aspects of annual giving appeals, incorporating academic and athletic appeals. This role is responsible for building a pipeline of annual support for the College's general operating needs and special projects, developing annual giving messages, inspiring alumni giving campaigns, instilling a culture of giving among the student body, and collaborating with the Vice Chancellor for Advancement and other colleagues on various fundraising projects.
Responsibilities
- Cultivate relationships with alumni and friends of the College.
- Develop and execute social media strategies using platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
- Use email platforms like Marketing Cloud to engage constituents.
- Design creative collateral using Canva and similar programs.
- Collaborate with advancement, athletics, marketing, and communications teams to achieve fundraising goals.
- Make presentations to colleagues, Boards, and in one-on-one visits.
- Coordinate annual giving appeals for academic and athletic initiatives.
- Build a pipeline of annual support for general operating needs and special projects.
- Develop annual giving messages and inspire alumni giving campaigns.
- Instill a culture of giving among the student body.
- Work on various fundraising projects and advancement-related activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; preference for Communications, Business, and Marketing majors.
- High degree of initiative, integrity, and excellent communication and writing skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet measurable metrics.
- Evening and weekend work required.
- Travel required, mostly within a day’s drive of the College with occasional overnight travel to visit supporters.
- Background checks will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment.
Pay
Anticipated salary: $48,000 - $50,000, based on qualifications and experience.
