Advanced Technology Engineer
About the role
The Advanced Technology Engineer position is available at Brookhaven National Laboratory managed by Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC in Upton, New York. The role involves designing, testing, and implementing integrated hardware solutions for robust and reliable controls and data acquisition at the experimental stations of NSLS-II. Interaction with scientists and engineers is necessary to identify hardware integration requirements, outline potential solutions, and create project proposals.
Responsibilities
- Design, test, and implement integrated hardware solutions for experimental stations at NSLS-II.
- Interact with scientists and engineers to identify hardware integration requirements and create project proposals.
- Refine requirements, design, implement, test, and document solutions for hardware integration projects within DSSI.
- Contribute to larger projects with integration needs, acting as a subject matter expert.
- Consult DSSI teams and facility staff on best practices and approaches in hardware integration, ensuring facility and system standards are met.
- Contribute to the development of various layers in the DSSI technology stack, including hardware drivers, control system software, and user interfaces.
- Maintain electrical safety.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or foreign equivalent degree.
- At least 4 years of experience in hardware integration in control systems.
- Experience generating detailed technical documentation, including schematics, system drawings, design documentation, and requirements specifications.
- Experience using test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, digital power supplies, and logic analyzers.

- Must have 4 years of experience integrating hardware in control systems.
- Must have 4 years of experience generating detailed technical documentation including schematics, system drawings, design documentation, and requirements specifications.
