About the role

The EHS Advanced Specialist will support and reaffirm the development and application of the safety management system (SMS), including all elements, programs, and practices. They will also be a key support person for the Pilot Midstream entities' process safety (PSM) requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the development and application of the safety management system (SMS).
  • Champions the Pilot safety stand, vision, values, and Zero Starts with Me Principles with internal stakeholders and external contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Affirms the safety management system (SMS) and process safety (PSM) requirements.
  • Provides leadership to operational teams through coaching and training in the applications of EHS-specific programs, initiatives, and system elements.
  • Develops and executes EHS goals and objectives that deliver a decrease in SIF-type and PSM events while also measurably increasing the application of the SMS elements.
  • Influences and guides internal and external stakeholders, such as operations, contractors, and subcontractors, to adopt best practices in EHS application to operations.
  • Delivers solutions to a variety of complex EHS problems with judgment that is based on experience, qualification, and strong analytic skills, which allow for innovative decisions.
  • Incident investigation leader who follows the Why Tree, Ishikawa, DNV, or Tap Root methodology of analysis.
  • Develops and implements Occupational Hygiene plans.
  • Ensures application of SMS, PSM, and regulatory compliance of Midstream operations.
  • Classifies incidents based on HECA and OSHA 300 for injuries.
  • Creates and delivers local, regional, and enterprise-level presentations on EHS subjects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in occupational safety or equivalent degree with safety certification (CSP, CRSP, NEBOSH, CMIOSH preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience working in downstream/petrochemical or fuel terminals, with Process Safety experience.
  • Experience with Regulatory Compliance and Permitting.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and ANSI Z10, SiF, and HECA.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, tactical, initiate and manage change, work collaboratively, negotiate, lead, influence, facilitate, problem solve, be decisive, work independently, and deliver results.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Up to 50% travel as required.
  • Office and field experience.
  • Able to pass pulmonary fitness test, SCBA mask fit test, and physical.
  • Able to stoop, bend, reach and lift as required for the role.
  • Able to work long hours as needed.
