Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sort and grade donated textiles and other assigned materials by quality, condition, and category.
  • Meet daily production goals as assigned by leadership.
  • Learn and perform table sorting, conveyor sorting, machine-assisted sorting, and related material recovery processes.
  • Record required production information, including Gaylord weights, cart categories, starting weights, and ending weights.
  • Identify and remove contaminants, trash, ungradable product, and non-qualifying items; route materials to the correct area as directed.
  • Load Gaylord boxes and boats into the machine system using the tilting device and follow required safety steps.
  • Monitor the main system screen and exchange carts from the Fibersort blow-off line when carts are full.
  • Use the speech sorting system, complete required speech model training, and identify garment categories using the microphone and evacuation conveyor.
  • Complete additional speech training when new sorting categories are added by management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation free from food, drink, and personal items.
  • Safeguard company property and report theft, misappropriation, unauthorized possession of company property, unsafe conditions, or potential hazards.
  • Follow all safety rules and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • May be cross-trained in other material recovery duties, such as runner, salvage processing, baling, forklift support, or related production tasks, based on business need.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Must have basic math skills and be able to use a calculator to add and subtract numbers.
  • Ability to stay focused while completing repetitive tasks accurately.
  • Standing and handling materials constantly; walking often; sitting rarely.
  • Frequently lifting/carrying 10 pounds or less, pulling or pushing material handling equipment (tables, pallet jack with product).
