About the Role

The Advanced Sonographer operates imaging equipment and software proficiently, primarily ultrasound equipment, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role requires a thorough understanding of imaging procedures while ensuring patient safety and maintaining imaging standards. Responsibilities include serving as lead when direct leadership is unavailable, acting as an expert resource, and assisting in training. Effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals is essential for providing optimal care.

Responsibilities

  • Operate imaging equipment, primarily ultrasound, to produce diagnostic images.
  • Serve as lead in the absence of direct leadership, managing schedules and coordinating daily operations.
  • Act as an expert resource for colleagues and assist in training.
  • Maintain patient safety and adhere to imaging standards and protocols.
  • Recognize technical abnormalities in diagnostic images and adjust protocols as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance protocols and accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of Sonography with completed required clinical hours.
  • 2 years of relevant experience.
  • State licensure may be required depending on the specific state of practice.
  • Certifications/Registries: ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI, plus 3 applicable advanced registries/certifications within the work area OR 2 applicable advanced registries/certifications with 5 years of applicable experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team, manage schedules, and coordinate daily operations.
  • Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills.
  • Thorough understanding of protocols with the ability to make adjustments as needed.
  • Proficiency in producing diagnostic images and recognizing technical abnormalities.
  • Knowledge of advanced or invasive procedures, if applicable.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex instructions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance protocols and accreditation standards.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
