About the role
Destiny Management Services, LLC is a professional services firm specializing in mission-critical medical support staffing and administrative services for federal government agencies. This role will perform under contract at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC), Fort Hood, TX, and may include any location under the CRDAMC hierarchy, such as West Fort Hood, North Fort Hood, Killeen, Harker Heights, and Copperas Cove, TX. Assignments may span inpatient services (e.g., cardiology, internal medicine, gastroenterology, neurology) and medical services (e.g., family medicine, pediatrics), as well as patient support and surgical services.
Responsibilities
- Prescribe for and treat a variety of gastrointestinal diseases, disorders, and injuries.
- Apply knowledge of medical, biological, and physical sciences related to the gastrointestinal specialty.
- Recognize emergency conditions to diagnose, prescribe for, and treat diseases, disorders, and injuries.
- Perform routine physical examinations and manage moderately complex acute and chronic illnesses in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Conduct initial patient work-ups and assessments of patient care and treatment.
- Determine the need for and order laboratory tests, x-rays, and other diagnostic procedures.
- Distinguish between normal and abnormal findings to identify early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
- Provide surveillance of adherence to established gastroenterology policies and procedures to stabilize chronically ill patients.
- Adjust treatment regimens within established protocols and recognize when to refer patients to a gastroenterologist or return them to their primary care manager.
- Collaborate with physicians in patient management, evaluation, and revision of therapeutic plans.
- Complete all necessary outpatient record entries, progress notes, admission/discharge paperwork, and narrative summaries in compliance with CRDAMC MTF policies.
- Ensure inpatient treatment documents and narrative summaries are countersigned by the attending physician.
- Provide emergency services or crisis interventions, including lifesaving procedures, in the absence of a physician.
- Manage an assigned panel of patients in the outpatient clinic.
- Occasionally provide preceptorship and/or teaching for candidate physician extenders, students, residents, fellows, technicians, and volunteers (documents require government representative signature).
- As determined by the department chief or designated government representative, may rotate shifts, transfer work locations/clinics, or be assigned irregular tours of duty (e.g., weekends, nights, holidays) based on patient workload, staffing needs, or government mission.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or doctoral degree (DNP) from an academic program accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty by ANCC, AANP, or a recognized national nursing certification organization (e.g., National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, American Nurses Association, National Certification Corporation).
- Minimum of three (3) years of post-education/graduate and post-licensure clinical experience within the last four (4) years as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP), or Acute Care NP (AGACNP).
- Recent hands-on advanced knowledge and experience in gastrointestinal specialties, including diagnosing, prescribing, and treating gastrointestinal diseases, disorders, and injuries.
- Competency in conducting comprehensive evaluations, developing and implementing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams.
