Advanced Process Control Engineer

About the role
As an advanced process control engineering specialist, you will join custom application delivery teams using Rockwell Automation's advanced analytics and model predictive control products. You will assess customer processes, develop mathematical models to predict system behavior, and configure online applications that dynamically control product quality, production capacity, and energy usage. This role involves full technical implementation of projects from design through commissioning and customer acceptance, including hardware installation and system integration.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical project activities such as design, system integration, data analysis, modeling, application development, site installation, and commissioning.
- Identify technical issues impacting project performance, including scope creep, delays, or requested change orders.
- Provide project cost performance reports, application performance metrics, and other relevant information.
- Document best practices for application development.
- Comply with customer safety and health requirements, including drug testing and safety training.
- Provide product, engineering, and application support to existing customers.
- Conduct periodic system and application health checks, performance analyses, and develop reports with findings and recommendations.
- Follow up on recommendations to sustain and maximize application value for customers.
- Support market development activities for industrial data science.
- Participate in commercial activities for specific projects as needed.
- Identify change orders and new opportunities within client projects.
- Request or undertake professional development to remain billable and cost-effective.
- Support the project staffing process to maximize practice margins.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering (preferred) or another engineering discipline with a focus on continuous process modeling, statistics, or process control.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time, typically 1- or 2-week trips, with occasional international projects.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship for employment visas is not available for this role.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience as a process or control engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of experience implementing model predictive control applications.
- Experience with instrumentation, industrial control systems, and supervisory control applications.
- Experience developing business cases for advanced process control or analytics.
- Experience with industrial and cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity, OPC, and/or SQL.
- Experience with DCS and/or PLC (SCADA, HMI, etc.) configuration, especially for integration with external applications.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation products.
- Familiarity with predictive emissions monitoring systems.
- Proficiency in another language such as Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese.
