Advanced Practitioner Provider Manager (NP) - NICU - Mount Sinai Hospital -Full Time - Day
About the role
The Advanced Practice Nursing Manager is responsible for coordinating, and ensuring comprehensive health care using advanced practice nursing process and pertinent standards of care. This role involves diagnosing illness and physical conditions, performing diagnostic, therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures in collaboration with appropriate specialty and site-based physicians. The APN Manager oversees and directs a designated group of advanced practice nurses within distinct specialty areas of practice, providing operational leadership and fostering clinical integration.
Responsibilities
- Affirms the health status of patients/families through comprehensive health history and physical examination.
- Initiates therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations, prescribes medication regimens, interprets findings, and alters the plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines.
- Edifies and counsels patients/families in health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses.
- Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record.
- Consults with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care.
- Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery.
- Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely manner, but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement.
- Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and the bylaws of the Hospital Staff.
- Ensures APNs meet institutional compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Schedules and coordinates clinical activities of APNs to accomplish established safety and quality measures.
- Manages, guides, and monitors APNs and interdisciplinary team members (including PAs) related to scheduling, assignments, and coordination of services.
- Prepares, implements, and monitors budgets, including capital equipment allocation, budget variances, management of OT and vacancies according to MSHS financial goals.
- Maintains control of established positions and manages the recruitment and retention of qualified staff.
- Counsels and disciplines staff up to and including termination.
- Facilitates the on-boarding and orientation as well as ongoing professional development of nurse practitioners.
- Engages with collaborating physicians, division chief, and department administrators to ensure that clinical practice, systems are supportive of clinical care.
- Promotes utilization of APNs to optimize their scope of clinical practice.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in nursing required, DNP preferred.
- 5+ years minimum of relevant clinical advanced practice nursing experience.
- Previous Nursing leadership and management experience preferred.
- Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Current certification and registration as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
- Current license and registration as a Professional Registered Nurse in NY State.
- National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required.
- Credentialed and privileged as APN at the respective site of practice.
Skills

Liaison between inpatient and outpatient areas to assure continuity of care.
Reviewing FPPE/OPPE of Advanced Practice Nurses on the assigned service.
Engaging with collaborating physicians, division chief, and department administrators to ensure that clinical practice, systems are supportive of clinical care.
Promoting utilization of APNs to optimize their scope of clinical practice.

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
