Advanced Practice Provider - Thoracic Medical Oncology (Outpatient)

About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a vital role in delivering specialized care and managing the health needs of patients in ambulatory settings. With advanced training and expertise, the APP focuses on subspecialized care, including chronic illness and disease management, ensuring continuity of care throughout the patient’s healthcare journey, which may span multiple years. This role involves specialization in thoracic medical oncology, where the APP provides expert consultation within their area of expertise as appropriate. The APP is integral to supporting patients across the continuum of care in both inpatient and outpatient specialty settings, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

APP will provide clinical coverage for neuroendocrine tumor (NET) patients as well as assist in peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) coordination within a multidisciplinary team. This includes attending the weekly NET board and PRRT meetings. Will work closely with the PRRT team including the nurse navigator, research team, and clinical team members to ensure timely patient access to appointments, treatments and clinical trials. Will also work within the multidisciplinary NET team to assist in referrals and coordination of care with interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, surgical oncology and other teams as needed.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
• In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patient's overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
• Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
• Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
• Prescribes therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
• Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
• Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations.
• Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within specialty scope of practice.
• Facilitates the patient’s transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.

Requirements

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant Certified, or Registered Nurse in Tennessee.
• Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
• Master's degree.

Oncology experience is preferred (not required).

Schedule

Position will be 3.5 days of clinic, 0.5 day for NET/PRRT coordination and 1 day administrative. No call, nights or weekends. Location: TVC.
