About the role
Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking a dynamic NP or PA to join our team. We are a leading institution in orthopedics and rheumatology, consistently ranked among the top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.
Responsibilities
- Obtain patient histories; perform comprehensive and focused physical examinations
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests
- Manage acute and chronic medical conditions
- Triage patient inquiries and clinical concerns
- Serve as a liaison to the infusion center
- Write and correct orders as needed
- Manage prior authorizations, in baskets, and appeals to secure treatment approvals
- Identify and manage infusion-related reactions
- Counsel and educate patients and caregivers on disease processes and care management outside the hospital setting
- Build a clinical practice in collaboration with the supervising physician
- Facilitate and improve the access of patients with OA by prioritizing consultation for these patients, coordinating care, and follow up
- Deliver care both collaboratively and autonomously
- Review outside medical records and coordinate with physicians to adjust treatment plans as needed
- Provide education on treatment protocols
- Prescribe medications and document all patient and caregiver interactions in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Support prior authorizations and insurance denials
- Manage in-basket for the collaborating physicians including returning urgent calls, medication refills, managing laboratory results
- Attend conferences and share relevant updates with clinical staff
- Utilize evidence-based practice guidelines

- Leads and participates in both professional and lay healthcare forums, conducts research, and applies findings to clinical practice
Requirements
- Current New York State licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Board certification from ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA
- Certification/Licenses: Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Experience: Minimum 1-2 years practicing in an outpatient or ambulatory setting
- Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong customer service orientation, critical thinking, time management/organization, collaboration and teamwork, interpersonal skills, confidence, adaptability, and responsibility
- Physical working conditions: Indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise
- Environmental working conditions: Indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise
Qualifications
- Education: NP Masters Nursing, FNP or AGNP preferred; PA Bachelors Physician Assistant Studies, Masters Physician Assistant Studies
- Training: Graduate of CAAHEP accredited Physician Assistant Training Program
- Experience: Minimum 1-2 years practicing in an outpatient or ambulatory setting
- Skills: Experience with electronic health record (EPIC) preferred
Benefits
Competitive salary range: $156,576.13 - $173,563.63. Additional benefits consistent with the role.
Pay
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.
