Advanced Practice Provider- Psychiatry

About the role

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough clinical interviews and assessments with inmates, ensuring documentation is completed daily.
  • Provides outpatient mental health care for inmates with severe mental illness or those considered high-risk.
  • Writes clinical assessments based on sound, balanced judgment.
  • Manages referrals to medical and mental health providers as needed.
  • Facilitates and documents releases from Crisis Development Observation (CDO), Mental Health Observation (MHO), and Behavioral Health Follow-up (BHF) referrals.
  • Identifies and manages risks related to inmate mental health during all interactions.
  • Reports threats or concerns (e.g., Offender Protection Investigations or safety threats) to security staff per Safe Prisons Plan.
  • Prioritizes tasks with a focus on risk management.
  • Maintains accurate inmate/patient reminders and records.
  • Completes all required documentation by close of business each day.
  • Adheres to all TDCJ Health Services, ACA, TTUHSC, and Outpatient Behavioral Health guidelines.
  • Mets or exceeds monthly productivity goals set by the Behavioral Health Management Team.
  • Responds professionally to supervision, accepting and applying feedback constructively.
  • Keeps supervisors informed of relevant clinical and administrative issues.
  • Attends trainings and reads relevant materials to enhance clinical skills.
  • Uses professional development funds for licensure renewal and continuing education.
  • Provides telehealth services to other units as assigned.
  • Performs unit-specific and marginal duties as assigned by supervisors or regional leadership.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
  • Prioritization of psych experience for Physician Assistant preferred.
  • Prioritization of psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required.
  • Prioritization of correctional or inpatient experience preferred but not required.

Qualifications

Pay

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan website at https://app4.ttuhsc.edu/payplan.

Schedule

Full-time onsite position. Remote/hybrid schedules will not be considered at this time.
