About the role

We are seeking a full-time, Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) in our inpatient Psychiatric Services Department. The position provides medical care and treatment under the supervision and support of a team of on-site board-certified psychiatrists. Services include psychiatric treatment, psychotherapy sessions, group therapy, medication therapy, family therapy, support group meetings, and relapse prevention. The role operates Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric treatment and psychotherapy sessions to patients with major mental illness.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director of Psychiatric Services and provide psychiatric consultative services to medical/surgical inpatients and the Emergency Department.
  • Manage a typical patient load of up to eight patients per day without an on-call requirement.
  • Optionally become certified to use Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, a new treatment option for patients.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Masters Degree in Nursing or Graduate of an American Medical Association approved Physician Assistant educational program.
  • Minimum Work Experience: 2 years of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience in specialty areas such as Pain Management, Orthopaedics, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatrics, Endocrinology, or Oncology.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Licensed with the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation with advanced certification by a national certifying organization recognized by the Vermont Nursing Board’s scope of practice, or Licensed by the Vermont Medical Board with certification by a national certifying organization recognized by the Vermont Medical Board for scope of practice.
  • Unit-specific certifications as required per specific department operational framework.
  • Completion of endorsed patient/visitor de-escalation and restraint program certification based on department specific guidelines.

Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

  • Able to take medical history, assess medical conditions, and interpret findings.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
  • Knowledge of developing and maintaining quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of human relations, group dynamics, and quality improvement techniques.
  • Ability to work despite interruptions and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Microsoft Office desktop application and navigation skills.
