About the role
The PREP Advanced Practice Provider (“PREP APP”) position provides high-level clinical support to the Anesthesiologists by delivering oversight and daily management for Perioperative anesthesia services. This clinician will assist Anesthesiologists and hospitalists by gathering and interpreting comprehensive medical information, performing medical histories and physical examinations on patients scheduled to receive anesthesia for a medical, surgical, or diagnostic procedure. This position is located at our Brighton PREP Clinic Campus.
Responsibilities
- Obtains complete medical, anesthesia and medication history for patients through an interview process.
- Collates, reviews, and interprets medical records of patients; obtains additional medical information as may be required.
- Prepares and organizes a clinical pre-anesthesia history and physical record prior to anesthetic event.
- Makes necessary recommendations for proper perioperative care for an anesthesiologist who may suggest additional studies or request further information.
- Provides patient education, reviews test results, and assists patient with procedural understanding for proper perioperative experience. Makes recommendations to the anesthesiologist and hospitalist that helps to identify other diagnostic tests, as well as refers patients for specialist consultation and other therapeutic and diagnostic services, when necessary.
- Accurately documents anesthesia and medication history for the anesthesia record, in coordination with the PREP nursing staff. This includes other anesthesia data summary forms to support proper patient care.
- Interacts with patient’s primary care physician, attending surgeon, sub-specialists as well as secretarial and nursing staff employed by the hospital.
- Develops relationships with surgical offices that will aid in the development of protocols for the rapid and efficient transfer of information relevant to the patient’s anesthesia care.
- Maintains appropriate level of Company & facility HIPAA-related confidentiality.
- Facilitates growth and development of each PREP Advanced Practice Provider (APP); resolve conflicts among the APP team through open and direct communication.
- Assists Medical Director in conjunction with Practice Director in setting guidelines for acceptable job performance.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school with a degree as a Physician Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner, FNPC.
- Current license issued by State of Maine or eligible for licensure.
- 2+ years’ experience in a surgical, PAU or other specialized clinical setting.
- Current DEA license.
- Current BLSS.
- Skilled in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings.
- Highly organized, personable and familiar with the process of preparing patients for surgery.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with previous experience working with PREP administrators and nursing directors.
- Knowledge of the professional medical practice and appropriate care to deliver and evaluate patient care.
- Skills in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to appropriate patient/physician correspondence.
- Proven communication skills and excellent customer service skills.
- Skills in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently.
- Dedicated to the highest quality patient care and furthering a positive PREP experience.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proficient computer skills with knowledge of electronic medical records.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
