Job Summary
The UofL Health Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join our emergency medicine team at UofL Health South Hospital.

Position Summary
The Emergency Department APP provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients presenting with acute and emergent medical conditions. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to perform emergency procedures, and excellent communication skills to educate patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Affords assessments of the physical and psychosocial status of clients through interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies for both inpatient and outpatient services.
- Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
- Manages specialty clinics, writes prescriptions for medication, blood tests, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, and therapeutic measures.
- Requests written consultations from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
- Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests and relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
- Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement.
- Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.
- Participates in multidisciplinary conferences and ensures appropriate, quality care.
- Provides symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
- Assists with admissions.
- Works both collaboratively and independently.
- Maintains oversight of survivorship program and survivorship clinic.
- Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel.
- Documents and reports care in an accurate, timely manner.
- Works effectively with others.
- Collaborates with other health disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Promotes evidenced-based nursing practice/research by participating in clinical research and leading efforts in scientific inquiry.
- Maintains a varied schedule, mutually agreed upon call schedule, assists in the Operation Room when necessary, and maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master of Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
- Current licensure in state of Kentucky as an APRN.
- National certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
- Current DEA certificate without restriction.
- Current BLS certification.
