Advanced Practice Provider Orthopedic Trauma Surgery
About the role
Join our collegial healthcare team at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, as an orthopedic trauma surgery advanced practice provider. You will work alongside board-certified orthopedic surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers, delivering compassionate and expert care through thorough assessments, individualized treatment plans, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
To succeed in this role, you should be a skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with expertise in diagnosing and managing complex diseases, strong communication abilities, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the surgical suite, including first assist, wound closure, application of internal devices, and other delegated procedures.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative care in clinics.
- Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations.
- Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests in clinics.
- Formulate treatment plans for orthopedic conditions within your scope of practice.
- Exercise judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising orthopedic surgeon or other healthcare professionals.
- Order, collect, and perform appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies (e.g., routine lab tests, EMG, electrocardiogram, radiologic examinations including arthrogram, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and bone scans).
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as aspirations and injections of joints, bursae, and cysts.
- Apply braces, casts, splints, and other orthopedic appliances.
- Conduct hospital rounds, write orders, take call, and see patients in the ED for the orthopedic surgeon as needed.
Requirements
- One year of experience as a practicing ARNP or Physician Assistant.
- Surgical experience as an APP is preferred.
- Washington State license in good standing.
- Board certified.
- DEA, NPI, and prescriptive authority.
- Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification by the American Heart Association.
Schedule
Average schedule is Monday-Friday, consisting of OR (surgery) with clinic and hospital work.
Pay
$125,818 - $177,876 per year, plus productivity incentive potential.
