Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA): Vero Gastroenterology I

Cleveland Clinic Indian River Medical Center Gastroenterology Department is seeking a team-oriented and engaged Advanced Practice Provider to join our supportive team of caregivers, serving the adult GI population in outpatient and intermittent hospital settings.

About the role

This position assists with rounds and new consults, providing primary and/or specialty care in collaboration with the healthcare team. The role emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Responsibilities include disseminating knowledge through instructing, leading, and developing educational programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough medical histories and perform complete physical examinations where indicated.
• Initiate appropriate lab, radiology, or other special tests required for illness evaluation.
• Scrutinize lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions to establish current health status and develop working diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Perform and interpret common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures to identify pathophysiologic processes, as privileged by the CCF Credentialing Board.
• Work with collaborating physicians to manage simple conditions, assist in complex illness management, and take initiative in life-threatening situations.
• Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through applicable state Board of Nursing/Medicine and CCF policy.
• Perform specialized procedures, including PEG tube exchange as directed by the physician, following approval by the CCF Credentialing Board.

Requirements

• Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant).
• Must function in collaboration with the healthcare team in accordance with certification and licensure.
• Gastroenterology experience preferred, though newly licensed candidates with relevant experience or clinical rotations will be considered.

Qualifications

Education

• Nurse Practitioner (APRN):
  • MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role (effective 05/01/2014).
  • Graduate of an accredited APRN program.
  • If in neonatal care service area, Master’s Degree is required upon hire.
• Physician Assistant (PA):
  • Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program.
  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree obtained from a program recognized by their practicing state’s Licensing Board.

Certifications & Licensure

• Nurse Practitioner:
  • Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s).
  • Licensed as an RN in applicable state(s).
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the AHA, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), may be required based on work setting.
  • Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with state Board of Nursing requirements.
  • Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
• Physician Assistant:
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA or successor organization recognized by their practicing state’s Licensing Board.
  • License to practice and prescribe issued by their practicing state’s Licensing Board.
  • Current DEA License or DEA designee as required by NCQA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) may be required based on work setting.
  • Must have a Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum to the agreement.
  • Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.

Work Experience

• Related clinical experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations.
• Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
