About the role

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within the Emergency Department and Trauma Center (EDTC). This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at the Children's Wisconsin hospital campus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans, and monitors effectiveness of plan of care and appropriately documents outcomes.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed, including but not limited to: suturing, splinting, I&D's, LP's, joint aspirations, minor reductions, IO insertion.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans. Additionally, educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  • Aids in the education and training of medical trainees including fellows, residents and students.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate, including primary care providers and other subspecialists.

Requirements

  • Preferred Experience: Previous APP with pediatric, emergency medicine, or urgent care experience preferred.
  • Open to new grads and experienced APP's. Preference for those who have shown prior interest and experience with pediatric population (extra rotations, prior employments, volunteering).
  • Minimum Education: Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization. Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner: Wisconsin RN License, Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License, Certification Requirements: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required within 6 months of start date, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 3 months of start date, DEA registration (required to obtain upon hire), Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization.
  • Physician Assistant: Wisconsin Physician Assistant License, Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), Certification Requirements: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required within 6 months of start date, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 3 months of start date, DEA registration (required to obtain upon hire).

Schedule

Full time role in a 24/7 coverage model with 9 and 12 hours shifts available. 1/3 of weekend and holiday coverage expected. Jeopardy coverage two weekends a year. Able to pick up extra shifts at moonlighting rate as available.
