Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) Pediatric Critical Care (Inpatient 2)
About the role
The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department Division of Pediatric Critical Care is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within an inpatient setting. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at the Children's Wisconsin hospital campus.
Responsibilities
- Examine, treat, and document acute and chronic care of children with complex and critical health conditions in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
- Order, interpret, and record results of clinical tests and report results to the physician team.
- Prescribe medications and make recommendations for other therapeutic treatments.
- Teach, instruct (formal and/or informal), nurses and nursing students, medical students, residents, parents and other health care professionals.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in section research activities.
Requirements
- Salaried (Exempt)
- Two years of nursing or physician assistant experience in direct patient care for children, with proven ability to communicate well with children, parents, and physicians under frequently stressful circumstances.
- Preferred: Previous experience in critical care nursing or comparable clinical practice; previous experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with subspecialty concentration in acute/chronic or critical care; previous experience with technology-dependent children.
Qualifications
- Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.
- Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
Skills
Acquire information on the most current developments and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associations, and current literature.

Schedule
Position requires flexibility with respect to scheduling as coverage. Includes 24/7 care of patients and includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays in a rotating schedule. 7 FTE (28 hours per week).
