Advanced Practice Provider (NNP/PA) - Neonatology III PRN

Cleveland Clinic is seeking a Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its Neonatology team. This PRN position will serve several locations including Hillcrest Hospital, Fairview Hospital, Main Campus, and Mercy Hospital.

About the Role

This role involves providing advanced nursing or medical care to neonatal patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions. The position requires collaboration with a physician and practice in high-acuity care settings where patients require complex monitoring, therapies, and continuous vigilance.

Responsibilities

• Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations, initiates appropriate lab, radiology, or other special tests, and scrutinizes lab data to establish patient health status and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
• Works with collaborating physician to provide care.
• Performs and interprets common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures to identify pathophysiologic processes.
• Performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and managing simple conditions produced by infection or trauma. Assists in managing complex illness and injury, including assisting surgeons in operations and performing evaluation and therapeutic procedures in life-threatening situations.
• Prescribes and monitors medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through applicable state Board of Nursing/Medicine and Cleveland Clinic policy.
• Performs specialized procedures, including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies, blood draws, designated IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and other specific procedures as directed by the physician.
• Provides information and answers routine questions of patients regarding their disease, preventive health maintenance, and medical specialty topics, including basic recommendations.
• Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects, and hazards.
• Participates in medical team rounds and collaborates with nursing, medical, and other healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care.
• Refers patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or specialized health resources and treatment.
• Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between the patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or specialty areas.
• Performs research follow-up studies and assists in data analysis.
• Participates in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes.
• Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
• May serve as a clinical preceptor for PA/APRN students and other health professionals.
• May serve as faculty for onboarding new employees.
• Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to excellent patient care.
• Routinely takes call and works off-shift hours, including weekends, holidays, and nights. Shifts cover 24 hours, 7 days a week.
• Special procedure privileging is required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master's Degree required.
• Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (for APRN) or Physician Assistant (for PA).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required.
• Advanced Practice Provider (APP) experience required.
• Must be able to work with a collaborating physician.

Qualifications

Education

• APRN:
  • MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role.
  • Graduate of an accredited APRN training program.
• PA:
  • Graduate of an ARC-approved Physician Assistant Program.
  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or applicable state license through the State Medical Board for certificate to practice.

Certifications

• APRN:
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the applicable state.
  • National certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing.
  • Current licensure by the applicable state Board of Nursing, including certificate to prescribe if applicable.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the AHA, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) may be required based on work setting.
• PA:
  • Current certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA (or successor).
  • Licensed by the State Medical Board of Ohio.
  • Must have a Physician Supervision Agreement (listed on State Medical Board website) and/or signed addendum to Physician Supervision Agreement.
  • Must be privileged by Cleveland Clinic's Credentialing Board.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the AHA may be required based on work setting.

Work Experience

• Two years of clinical advanced practice nursing experience preferred (for APRN).
• Two years of relative clinical experience preferred (for PA).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Pay

Pay range for new hires: $82.00 per hour. The pay range may vary depending on factors such as job responsibilities, relevant experience, skills, scheduling requirements, education, and area of licensure. Additional pay practices or the value of Cleveland Clinic's comprehensive benefits package (including healthcare, dental and vision coverage, retirement savings contributions, and more) are not included in this range.

Schedule

This is a PRN position requiring 24/7 in-house service coverage, including weekends, holidays, nights, and off-shift hours. Shifts cover 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
