Advanced Practice Provider - Inpatient Psychiatry
About the role
Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.
Major/Essential Functions
- Examines offender/patients to determine general mental health and prescribes treatment in conjunction with treatment teams' input and administers medication as needed
- Inspects, completes, and analyzes records, assigns, reviews and updates classification, completes admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries and makes rounds on patients admitted
- Conducts regular telepsychiatry clinics with outpatient units
- Takes inhouse and regional call on a rotation basis
- Refers patients to medical specialist or other practitioner for specialized treatment
Occasional Duties
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
- Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
- OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing.
- Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
Psych Experience
Prior psych experience for Physician Assistant preferred.
Nurse Practitioner Certification
Prior Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required.
Correctional or Inpatient Experience
Prior correctional or inpatient experience preferred but not required.
