About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider manages and documents the medical plan of care prescribed for the patient based on a joint plan adopted by the APP and the supervising physician / medical director. Responsibilities include billing and quality management activities, assessing and treating patients in the Infectious Disease Office and Inpatient Infectious Disease, and ensuring care is aligned with Stormont Vail Health's mission, strategic plans, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a complete physical exam and record findings.
  • Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Manage medical emergencies.
  • Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
  • Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnostic and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Order appropriate laboratory diagnostic procedures.
  • Effectively use laboratory equipment in the clinic and know procedures for sending laboratory tests to a reference lab.
  • Administer medications and injections according to physician direction.
  • Suture minor lacerations.
  • Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention.
  • Recommend community resources to meet patients and family needs.
  • Instruct patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Ensure care delivered to patients is provided according to the Stormont Vail Health mission, strategic plans, and all internal/external regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Practice within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and within the guidelines of management protocols.
  • Support the established care models of Stormont Vail Regional Health Center.
  • Has prescriptive authority per Kansas Nurse Practice Act and SVH protocols.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary care teams to provide communication of patient’s plan of care and outcomes as well as health issues not related to cardiovascular health as appropriate.
  • Completes preoperative evaluations.
  • Completes hospital rounding and documentation in a thorough and accurate manner, according to the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Provides routine hospital coverage on weekends per predetermined schedule.

Requirements

Must be a graduate of an accredited PA/APRN program and meet educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy. Experience in Infectious Disease patient care is preferred. Must have valid APRN licensure and be certified as a nurse practitioner by a recognized national certifying body that has established standards for nurse practitioners. Additional certifications may be required for certain patient care settings or populations. DEA registration number is required.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Demonstrates transparent and truthful interactions to their patients, coworkers, healthcare team or leadership.
  • Notifies leadership of any situations that may negatively impact patient care or Stormont Vail such as but not limited to harassment, conflict of interests, fraud or secondary employment.
  • Maintains Registered Nurse competencies as designated by Federal and State organizations and as outlined in SVH policy.
  • Willingness to learn necessary computer skills.
