About the role
The role involves outpatient and/or inpatient care, collaboration with physicians, and participation in research/education.
Responsibilities
- Manage the care of patients within assigned area and/or area of expertise and within parameters of medical staff privileges.
- Obtain relevant patient health history.
- Study and interpret patient tests and records.
- Perform physical exam and record findings.
- Perform various diagnostic, preventive and/or therapeutic procedures and/or order special screenings and developmental or laboratory tests to diagnose conditions; interpret results.
- Prescribe/order appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and develop a treatment plan.
- Develop an educational plan for patient/family.
- Absorb and coordinate scheduling of patients for upcoming procedures including coordinating with other services (division, departments) and completion of necessary documentation, scheduling forms, and clearance.
- Order appropriate consultation/referral.
- Determine effectiveness of treatment plan with documentation of treatment provided and patient outcomes.
- Reassess and modify plan with patient/family and treatment team within the parameters of medical staff privileges.
- Participates in the educational experiences of nursing students, medical students, residents, and other healthcare disciplines.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required.
- Graduation from accredited APRN program.
- Current license as a Professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice.
- Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois required.
Qualifications
- Trained in pediatric infectious diseases for at least 6 months.
- Prior experience in pediatrics, immunology, or hospital medicine is a plus.
- Strong clinical judgment in pediatric infectious diseases (e.g., antibiotic stewardship, viral infections, travel medicine).
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication skills for patient/family education.
Skills
- Diagnosing and managing pediatric infectious diseases.
- Ordering/interpreting lab tests.
- Prescribing medications.
- Performing procedures (if applicable).
- Collaborating with pediatricians, ID physicians, pharmacists, and infection control teams.
- Counseling families on prevention, treatment, and follow-up care.
- Participation in clinical trials, guidelines, or infection prevention initiatives (if applicable).

Pay
The budgeted salary range for the position is $97,000 to $110,000 per year. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
