About the Role
This position is accountable for the provision of patient care and other activities as permitted by licensure and defined within Credentialing and Privileging documentation (hospital), Credentialing and Scope of Practice (Medical Group), Consultation and Referral Plan (DOPL), or other similar documentation. The Nurse Practitioner (APRN) delivers optimal patient care through effective clinical practice, education of patients and staff, consultation with healthcare providers, and maintaining current knowledge for optimal patient outcomes.
Advanced practice registered nursing includes maintenance and promotion of health, prevention of disease, diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and referral for common health problems, as well as prescription or administration of prescription drugs or devices, including local anesthesia, schedule II-V controlled substances in accordance with a consultation and referral plan.
Responsibilities
- Performs patient assessment to obtain a complete and accurate record of clinical information and medical symptoms.
- Orders tests and exams to gather additional information for patient care.
- Diagnoses patient needs and determines a plan of care based on assessment.
- Interprets patient care tests and exams to guide treatment decisions.
- Provides and oversees patient treatment, including prescriptive practice, to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.
- Utilizes advanced specialty knowledge to ensure care is appropriate, effective, timely, and cost-efficient.
- Performs diagnostic or therapeutic procedures as defined by Scope of Practice.
- Completes timely and accurate documentation of clinical care, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
- Codes and bills accurately per established protocols.
- Conducts and coordinates education for patients, families, and clinical staff to support the continuum of care.
- Trains other staff in areas of clinical expertise and provides teaching to students as appropriate.
- Stays current with healthcare trends and participates in continuing medical education.
- Coordinates and collaborates patient care efforts with other providers, communicating clinical information thoroughly and accurately.
- May participate in research and evidence-based practice to promote quality patient care, protocol development, and best practice standards.
Requirements
- Current state license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (credentialing requirement).
- Eligible for State Controlled Substance License II through V.
- Eligible for Federal DEA Certificate II through V.
- BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Other certifications as required (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP).
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Applicable certification from a recognized certifying organization such as ANCC or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
- Relevant clinical experience as defined by position leadership.
Physical Demands
- Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and care providers, including hearing and understanding spoken information quickly, especially during emergencies.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing.
- Ability to lift and transfer patients, including bending, retrieving, lifting, and carrying supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting patients and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and navigating crowded or busy rooms.
- May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
Pay
The hourly range for this position is $57.33 - $88.47, dependent upon experience.
