Advanced Practice Provider- Cardiac Surgery-PRN
Position Summary
Sinai Hospital is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) - to join our Cardiac Surgery team on a PRN basis. This position requires prior experience in cardiac surgery, including proficiency in endoscopic and open saphenous vein harvesting, first-assisting in cardiac surgical procedures, and comprehensive perioperative patient care. The APP will work in a dynamic, high-acuity environment providing care across the Operating Room, Inpatient Units, and Outpatient Clinic, with scheduled on-call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Perioperative Surgical Duties:
- First-assist in all cardiac surgical procedures.
- Perform endoscopic and open saphenous vein harvesting and radial artery harvesting.
- Prepare harvested conduits and manage incision closure.
- Participate in preoperative preparation, intraoperative support, and immediate postoperative care in the OR.
- Provide scheduled surgical OR call coverage.
Inpatient Care:
- Care for cardiac surgery inpatients.
- Perform comprehensive history and physical exams for all preoperative patients.
- Deliver daily postoperative management on the Open-Heart Step Down Unit (OHSD).
- Respond to cardiac surgery consults promptly.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop care plans in collaboration with cardiac surgeons.
Outpatient Clinic Duties:
- Conduct preoperative and postoperative evaluations.
- Manage patients in the cardiac surgery outpatient clinic.
- Care for patients in the cardiac surgery outpatient clinic.
- Coordinate care transitions to referring providers and specialty services.
Call Coverage:
- Provide on-call coverage from home, including urgent consults, emergent surgical cases, and inpatient issues.

Qualifications
Education & Licensure: Current Maryland license as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) (or eligibility to obtain). Certified by NCCPA (for PAs) or appropriate NP board certification. DEA registration and Maryland CDS license required.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Required
Experience: Cardiac surgery experience required Proficient in endoscopic vein harvesting and first-assisting in cardiac surgery. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment. Strong clinical, communication, and organizational skills.
