Advanced Practice Provider

Loyal Source is seeking Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants for employment opportunities in El Paso, Texas. NPs and PAs work together as the core of the provider team, delivering comprehensive clinical care in a unique detention environment. The role requires a broad clinical background and adherence to predetermined policies and detention standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide acute, emergent, and chronic health care as part of an integrated team, adhering to established policies, guidance, and accreditation standards.
• Perform comprehensive history and physical evaluations, behavioral health care, and minor outpatient surgical procedures for detainees.
• Apply clinical knowledge in treatment plans, prescriptions, lab/diagnostic ordering, medication prescribing, and referrals.
• Comply with court-ordered treatment plans, including evaluation and treatment of patients with psychiatric illness or life-threatening conditions (e.g., hunger strikes).
• Deliver full-spectrum, age- and gender-specific care, including treatment of gender dysphoria and pregnancy.
• Consult with staff physicians, clinical directors, or specialists for complex medical or psychiatric cases.
• Provide infirmary care, including admission, discharge, and daily rounds for patients requiring higher-level monitoring.
• Interpret Tuberculin skin tests (TSTs), manage Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) for tuberculosis, and implement infection control measures.
• Adhere to universal precautions and proper disposal of sharps/infectious waste.
• Deliver patient health education verbally and via handouts.
• Assist with accreditation preparation and ongoing compliance with standards.
• Attend on-site, regional, and national meetings as required.
• Complete all initial, annual, and ad-hoc training requirements.
• Participate in credentialing and peer review processes.
• Facilitate and mentor onboarding and training for new APPs.
• Maintain productivity levels consistent with facility averages.

Requirements

• Education:
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate from an ARC-PA-accredited program in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. The institution/program must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Graduate from an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. The institution/program must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Experience:
  • One year of full-time primary care experience as a licensed NP or PA within the past five years.
  • Experience in detention, correctional, or residential healthcare settings (preferred).
  • For Family Residential Centers: One year of full-time primary care experience with women and pediatric patients of all ages.
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Unrestricted, current NP or PA license in the duty station’s state (report changes immediately).
  • National certification:
    • Physician Assistant: NCCPA certification.
    • Nurse Practitioner: Board certification as a Family NP (AANC or AANP).
  • Unrestricted DEA license for controlled medications in the duty station’s state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or ASHI).
• Signed collaborative practice and prescriptive authority agreement with a physician.

• Functional proficiency in documenting detainee healthcare in electronic health records per policy and timelines.
• Knowledge of HIPAA/Privacy Act regulations for medical records and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
• Verbal and written Spanish proficiency (preferred).

Pay

$64.88/hour with health and welfare benefits.

Schedule

• Facility operates 24/7/365; emergency response required.
• Rotational on-call duties, including potential return to facility for care.
• Availability for day and evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands

• Long periods of standing, walking, or jogging on rough/uneven surfaces.
• Recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, or reaching.
• Recurring lifting of moderately heavy patients or equipment.

Citizenship
