About the Role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) serves as a primary health care provider in collaboration with licensed physicians. The APP assesses patients' physical status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests. Following medical protocols, the APP evaluates findings, makes initial diagnoses, and implements therapeutic plans to address patients' continued health care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document a complete and advanced health and development history from patients and/or family members.
  • Perform and document an advanced physical examination of the patient, delineate problems, and present data.
  • In collaboration with licensed physicians, order and/or perform special screening and diagnostic tests and procedures; analyze collected data and take appropriate action.
  • Explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to patients and families.
  • Provide active patient teaching relevant to concerns/diagnoses, including preventative health maintenance.
  • Assist in formulating and implementing the plan of care, which may include treatment modalities, prescribed medications, consultations, and referrals.
  • Consult with supervising physicians when patient progress does not meet anticipated criteria.
  • Identify and manage acute and chronic illnesses in collaboration with physicians, following established protocols.
  • Document data, patient assessments, and plans of care according to organizational standards.
  • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills through seminars, lectures, and continuing education.
  • Apply knowledge of medical documentation, correct billing procedures, and healthcare regulatory compliance standards.
  • Provide formal and/or informal in-services to clinical staff as appropriate.
  • Assist in teaching students, residents, and interns in complex techniques and procedures unique to the cardiology setting.
  • Provide emergency treatment and initiate life-saving measures, including BLS/CPR and ACLS.
  • Provide medical care at off-site locations, including affiliated hospitals.
  • Participate in the development of U.S. Urology Partners policies and procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.
  • AANP or ANCC/NCCPA board certification, license, or qualification for state licensure.
  • Two years of Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant experience is preferred.
  • Current BLS certification.

Skills

  • Ability to solve practical problems in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer information systems.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
