About the Role

The Division of GI, Tumor and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine seeks a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) at the Instructor rank. Under the direction of full-time faculty, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).

Responsibilities

• Provide independent clinical services as an Advanced Practice Provider for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (TACS) service at Anschutz Medical Campus, including inpatient rounding and consultative roles.
• Inpatient duties: rounding, writing orders, independent imaging/laboratory review, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and discharge activities.
• Consult duties: participate in trauma bay resuscitations, evaluate emergency general surgery & trauma consults, admit patients, collaborate with consultants, perform bedside procedures, and assist in the operating room as needed.
• Outpatient responsibilities: cross-coverage of clinic care, triage of phone calls/emails/faxes, post-op care, follow-up on home care requests, management of referrals, and follow-up on diagnostic lab and radiology tests.
• Collaborate closely with general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, hospital staff, and surgical residents.
• Serve as a critical part of service continuity and a link between inpatient and outpatient environments for patients, given the rotating nature of resident assignments.
• Provide care to patients on inpatient wards, intensive care units, acute care areas, and occasionally in outpatient clinics.
• Professional interaction with referring physicians, emergency medical personnel, and multidisciplinary providers.
• Cross-coverage of clinical care on different services to manage varying census and acuity.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master’s degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current Colorado license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
• Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two years’ experience in general surgery, trauma surgery, or critical care setting.

Pay

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $99,819 to $140,566. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
