About the Department

The Section of Urology at our institution oversees a broad range of surgical care programs for adults and children with complex urologic diseases, including urologic cancers of the bladder, kidney, prostate, and testicular regions. Our surgeons also provide female urologic procedures such as reconstruction, prolapse repair, salvage, and urodynamics. We are world leaders in robotic surgical techniques that enhance surgical and aesthetic outcomes for many urologic patients.

The Section is home to busy laboratories supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, and other major entities, with a focus on cancer research. Our urologists are dedicated to discovering better treatments for urologic diseases through collaborative efforts among faculty and staff. About the Role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APN or PA) in the Section of Urology uses best practices and autonomous decision-making to assess, diagnose, and initiate delegated medical treatments. Responsibilities include family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation, and research.

Responsibilities

• Obtain medical histories and perform physical assessments.
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests.
• Prescribe treatments and screen patients.
• Facilitate care in collaboration with surgeons and make referrals to other disciplines as needed.
• Provide inpatient and outpatient services.
• Design patient education programs to inform health care and treatment decisions.
• Evaluate goals and outcomes, considering benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions for patient care plans.
• Respond to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations (e.g., infants, children, pregnant or lactating women, older adults).
• Develop and coordinate APP training and professional development activities.
• Perform other related work as needed.

Requirements

• A college or university degree from an accredited school/college.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
• Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration.
• Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).

Qualifications

Preferred Education

• Advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program (ARC-PA).

Preferred Experience

• Two or more years of clinical experience in a related specialty.

Licenses and Certifications

For Advanced Practice Nurse:

• Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.

For Physician Assistant:

• Current Physician Assistant license/registration in Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
• Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.

Preferred Competencies

• Demonstrated clinical competency, leadership, and teaching skills.
• Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments.
• Willingness to enter into a written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.
• Willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number as needed.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer use.

Pay

Salary range: $130,900.00 - $167,200.00.
