About the Role

Under physician supervision, coordinates care of acutely ill post-surgical Adult/Late Adult patients admitted to the Cardiac Surgery Service intensive care setting. This role requires performing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks for patients undergoing Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic procedures, including heart and lung transplantation and ventricular assist devices.

Responsibilities

  • Collect detailed histories and physicals, presenting pertinent data to the medical staff.
  • Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.
  • Order tests and prescribe medications.
  • Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures, based on privileges.
  • Assist attending physicians in orienting new resident physicians and maintaining continuity of care.
  • Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers to coordinate clinical care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient status, evaluations, and treatment.
  • Streamline patient transfer between care levels, including writing discharge orders.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, peer evaluations, and support research initiatives.
  • Comply with standards for quality, patient safety, and reimbursement.
  • Utilize new improvements and technologies related to job assignments.

Requirements

NP:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in Michigan.
  • Specialty certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Recent clinical ICU experience (within the last 5 years) with acutely ill cardiac and thoracic surgery patients.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • ACLS and AHA-approved BLS certification.

PA:

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Michigan with 2+ years of ICU experience.
  • Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • NCCPA certification.
  • Recent clinical ICU experience (within the last 5 years) with acutely ill cardiac and thoracic surgery patients.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • ACLS and AHA-approved BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Employment contingent on successful credentialing and privileging.
  • Must meet all required qualifications before the start date.
  • Resume required for consideration.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of full-time ICU experience as an NP/PA.
  • 2+ years of ICU experience with critical care patients.
  • Experience with post-cardiothoracic surgery treatment modalities.
  • Experience with ventricular assist devices and heart/lung transplantation.
  • Ability to coordinate care across multiple services and advocate for patients.
  • High-level critical thinking and prioritization skills.

Pay

Full-time salary range: $144,029 - $222,202 / year

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hrs/week. Night/day rotation with majority nights. Weekend and holiday shifts required (up to 50% weekends).
