Advanced Practice Professional (PA) Pediatric Cardiology Interstage Program

About the role

Responsibilities

This position will have outpatient and consultative responsibilities. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Participates in the care of outpatients in the congenital heart center, specifically general cardiology clinic and focused clinics for infants in the interstage period.
• Participates in both in-person and virtual visits.
• Participates in program development, protocol review and development, and quality improvement with opportunities to participate in clinical research.
• Consistent with the collaborative practice agreement, diagnose and treat patients in a medical and post-surgical care setting.
• Exercises autonomy in medical decision-making and provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• Performs admission H&P's, consults, new patient visits, return visits, and subsequent care days.
• Performs health assessments, including patient history, physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and appropriate interventions or referrals.
• Documents patient care, progress towards goals, and maintains complete and detailed patient records.
• Provides health education and develops and implements patient education programs.
• Presents workshops, lectures, and in-service programs for care team members as well as patients and families.
• A small portion of effort will be spent providing cross-coverage for other Advanced Practice Providers.

Requirements

Either Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant applicants will be considered.

• Nurse Practitioner:
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • PALS certification (if ACLS certified, must have PALS within 1-2 months of employment).
  • DEA license or ability to obtain.
  • Three years of clinical care for pediatric cardiology/cardiac surgery patients.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Physician Assistant:
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required.
  • PALS certification (if ACLS certified, must have PALS within 1-2 months of employment).
  • DEA license or ability to obtain.
  • Three years of clinical care for pediatric cardiology/cardiac surgery patients.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

Desired qualifications include:

• APP experience in caring for congenital heart disease, pediatric cardiology, or pediatric cardiac surgery patients in an outpatient setting.
• Stronger preference for those with experience caring for interstage patients in an outpatient setting.
• Demonstrated ability to complete history and physical examination, order appropriate diagnostic studies, synthesize information, and make informed clinical decisions.
• Prior experience in quality improvement and research in this population.
• Demonstrated skill with patient education in post-surgical management for pediatric cardiac surgery patients.
• Demonstrated skill with and knowledge of the principles of Patient and Family-Centered Care.
• Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Pay

Full-time salary range: $130,630 - $200,734 per year.

Schedule

Hours per week: 40, Day shift, located at the Congenital Heart Center at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.
