Advanced Practice Professional (NP) Pediatric Cardiomyopathy Team

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the care of outpatients in the congenital heart center.
    • Specifically, general cardiology clinic and focus on cardiomyopathy patients in both a shared and directed visits.
    • Participates in both in person and virtual visits.
    • Participates in program development, protocol review and development, and quality improvement with opportunities to participate in clinical research.
    • Consistent with the collaborative practice agreement, diagnose and treat patients in cardiology with specific focus on cardiomyopathy patients.
    • Exercises autonomy in medical decision-making and provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
    • Manages patients with complex, acute, and chronic health conditions.
    • Performs admission H&P's, consults, new patient visits, return visits and subsequent care days.
    • Performs health assessments, including patient history, physical examinations, diagnostic tests and appropriate interventions or referrals.
    • Documents patient care, progress towards goals and maintains complete and detailed patient records.
    • Provides health education.
    • Develops and implements patient education programs.
    • Presents workshops, lectures and in-service programs for care team members as well as patients and families.
  • Performs cross coverage for other Advanced Practice Providers (responsibilities TBD).

Required Qualifications

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners will be considered based on relevant experience by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).
  • FNP applicants with relevant experience will be considered.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • PALS certification (if ACLS certified, must have PALS within 1-2 months of employment).
  • DEA license or ability to obtain.
  • Three (3) years of clinical care for pediatric cardiology patients.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in caring for congenital heart disease, pediatric cardiology or pediatric cardiac surgery patients in an outpatient setting.
  • Stronger preference for those with experience caring for cardiomyopathy patients in an outpatient setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete history and physical examination, order appropriate diagnostic studies; synthesize information and make informed clinical decisions; develop appropriate care plans that are responsive to patient and family needs and preferences in a pediatric acute or critical care setting and in a clinic setting.
  • Prior experience in quality improvement and research in this population.
  • Demonstrated skill with patient education in outpatient cardiology.
  • Demonstrated skill with and knowledge of the principles of Patient and Family Centered Care.
  • Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Self-directed, reliable, demonstrates initiative and motivation to work independently as evidenced by previous/current employment experience and demonstrated in annual evaluations.
  • Must reflect a professional appearance and demeanor and possess excellent customer service skills.
