About the role
Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) is a large provider of evidence‑based behavioral health and addiction services across New Jersey, operating 15 sites with a $260 million budget and a staff of over 1,060 professionals. Services include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach, case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school (preschool‑high school). Specialty programs feature the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special‑needs children, and child protective service workers.
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) serves as an expert in advanced nursing care, functioning collaboratively with the physician of protocol for prescriptive practice and working within the treatment team to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and assessment services. The APN must demonstrate competency according to the American Nurses Association Advanced Practice Standards and the relevant credentialing body.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the standard of clinical practice adapted by the American Nurses Association and ensure nursing care meets the standards of practice for specialty credentialing certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Credentialing Center.
- Engage in collaborative practice with the physician of protocol for prescriptive practice.
- Follow protocols for prescriptive practice.
- Coordinate treatment with members of the treatment team.
- Deliver high‑quality care as rated by supervisor, collaborating physician, and individuals served feedback.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Nursing required.
- At least two (2) years of nursing experience required, preferably as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
- Must have prescriptive ability.
Qualifications
- Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the New Jersey Board of Nursing; OR
- Current Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP – PMHNP) or American Nurses
