About the role
The Connecticut Department of Correction is seeking an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join the team at the New Haven Correctional Center. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position on first shift, Monday through Friday between 7:00am and 3:00pm.
Responsibilities
- Assess, evaluate, and develop treatment plans for inmates' health care needs
- Provide comprehensive advanced nursing treatments and health care services
- Order, analyze, and interpret diagnostic study results
- Prescribe medication and monitor patient responses
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of medical and psychiatric care
- Consult with clinical staff on assessment methods and treatment plans
- Assist in determining the need for contractual health services
- Participate in quality assurance and clinical committees
- Train nursing and paraprofessional staff
- Complete home assessments for safety
- Testify in court
- Direct agency clinic services
Requirements
- A current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse issued by the Connecticut Department of Public Health
- Experience with incarcerated/forensic populations preferred
- Eligibility for participation in federal health care programs
- Controlled Substance Registration for Practitioners and DEA Registration
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license (may be required)
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing
- Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
- Completion of an approved advanced practice registered nurse program
- At least two years of experience in advanced nursing practice
Skills
- Knowledge of advanced nursing principles and treatments
- Relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations
- Psychiatric nursing principles and practices
- Substance abuse issues as they relate to overall health and psychiatric status
- Pharmacology as it relates to advanced nursing practice
