Advanced Inpatient Coder Specialist (PRN/REMOTE)

Position Details

Location: Remote (must reside in FL, GA, NC, or SC)
Status: PRN (as-needed, non-benefit eligible)
Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Schedule: Flexible

Key Responsibilities

• Analyzing complex inpatient documentation to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
• Collaborating with physicians and clinical teams to ensure accurate coding of complex conditions such as sepsis and malnutrition
• Creating and managing physician queries and monitoring bill hold reports
• Partnering with Clinical Documentation Specialists and Quality teams to support accurate MS-DRG assignment and PSI/HAC reviews
• Applying advanced knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to support coding accuracy
• Mentoring and supporting Coder I–III team members and students as needed
• Completing additional duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

• Experience: 5+ years of acute care experience, 3+ years of inpatient coding experience
• Certification: Required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Preferred: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
• Education: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent, Preferred: Associate degree in Health Information Technology
