About the Role

The Product Engineer is key to growing Owens Corning’s and our customers’ business through driving the use and continuous development of Owens Corning’s Roofing Components product portfolio, particularly lumber and vent products. This role plays a crucial part in product and process development, customer technical support, applications support, validating customer fitness-for-use requirements, and driving productivity within the lumber and vent product line. The engineer will collaborate closely with technical teams, manufacturing teams, and business and operational managers to lead key workstreams and provide ongoing product technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Product Technical Leadership (60%):
    • Manage technical product line initiatives within the Components lumber and vent product portfolios.
    • Enhance current lumber and vent products and support development of new products to secure and strengthen competitive advantage.
    • Engage with customers and marketing to understand needs and develop product improvements that bring value.
    • Lead product qualifications, supply security material qualifications, manufacturing line extensions, customizations, and product design changes that deliver business value or growth opportunities.
    • Establish and maintain manufacturing product specifications that ensure quality and consistency.
    • Apply scientific fundamentals and experimental design in projects; coordinate testing, analyze data, and implement improvements.
    • Recognize problems and initiate corrective actions; communicate technical results to project teams.
    • Support technical claim and testing expansion to differentiate products in the market.
    • Monitor the marketplace (competitors, industry organizations, regulatory changes) to identify and react to trends.
    • Assist in quality improvements for sustainable product designs to meet customer needs.
    • Generate technical insights leading to intellectual property and competitive advantage.
  • Project Management (40%):
    • Define and drive product improvement projects, partnering across functions to align and deliver successful outcomes.
    • Lead product modifications or developments through manufacturing to commercialization.
    • Define, manage, and communicate project scope, timeline, and resources.
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Provide technical recommendations and share knowledge across the organization.
    • Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
    • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety; working safely is a condition of employment.
    • Ability to implement product designs/improvements in continuous manufacturing processes.
    • Experience using fundamental engineering and business principles to deliver product and process improvements.
    • Ability to develop and meet key milestones, work collaboratively across functions, and contribute technically to solutions.

    • Ability to travel domestically (15-30%) and internationally (up to 10%), depending on project needs.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Experience in consumer-branded product development and/or process improvement.
    • Track record of project leadership from concept to launch within large cross-functional teams.
    • Project management effectiveness in R&D and/or manufacturing environments (e.g., plant trials, budget awareness).
    • Experience with statistics to drive data-based decisions and develop customer-inspired test methods.
    • Multi-functional leadership skills (e.g., managing across product management, marketing, operations, and R&D).
