About the Role

The AEMT’s primary responsibility is responding to Intra/Inter-Facility Transports. The AEMT functions within the Emergency Department as a team with Physicians, Registered Nurses (RN), and Physician Assistants (PA). The role involves adhering to the Hospital's Standards of Patient Care to deliver safe, quality care in Inter/Intra-Facility and Emergency Department settings. The AEMT performs treatments and procedures within the scope of AEMT practice as outlined in the Standards Manual, Protocols, Policies and Procedures, and Practice Guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Drive a motor vehicle safely and effectively, adhering to Driver/Fleet Safety Policy and EMS policies on vehicle operations.
• Operate the ambulance safely, prioritizing crew, public, patient, and equipment safety.
• Provide adequate ambulance coverage for the community, communicating with Charge/Supervisor or dispatch to facilitate coverage.
• Maintain ambulances in a state of readiness, including cleanliness, proper stocking, and vehicle inspections.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the geography served and surrounding communities.
• Complete TEMSIS reports, billing documents, and appropriate charges within 24 hours (or 4 hours for critical care).
• Interview patients and caregivers to obtain relevant bio-psycho-social history.
• Examine patient’s physical status and review test results (EKG, lab, x-ray) for ongoing assessment and reporting to physicians.
• Reassess patient status at established time frames.
• Complete documentation in EMS Charts and MediTech.
• Communicate patient needs and assessments to physicians and interdepartmental services.
• Develop and implement an emergency care plan in the prehospital setting, tailored to patient needs and according to protocol.
• Acknowledge, coordinate, and implement physician orders.
• Administer medications in accordance with State and hospital policy and monitor for effects.
• Implement the plan of care in a team format and report patient condition to the RN prior to leaving for an ambulance call.
• Assist physicians and other healthcare providers in administering treatments and procedures.

Requirements

• Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification required.
• NREMT certification required.
• High School Graduate / GED required.
• Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) New Hampshire state license required.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date).
• PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date).

Schedule

7a-7p or 7p-7a shifts, including some weekends and holidays.
