About the role
Responds to EMS calls and performs a variety of functions related to the care and treatment of patients suffering from urgent and emergent disease and/or injury states in accordance with appropriate rules, regulations, and protocols, according to PA DOH EMS Act and scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Responds to EMS calls whether emergency or routine transport, observes safety policies, and operates an emergency vehicle with due regard for others.
- Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
- Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment.
- Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues I.V. fluids.
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls as an Advanced Life Support Provider when appropriate, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) EMS protocols.
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff safety by complying with all applicable safety regulations, learning the impact of medical errors, and reporting actual or potential errors and hazardous conditions.
- Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
- Provides outstanding service to all customers, fosters teamwork, and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 year of work experience in a busy 911 system.
- Certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technician upon hire.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Certified EMS Vehicle Operator upon hire.
- Valid driver’s license in the current state of residence; driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
- Completion of Emergency Vehicle Operator’s Course (EVOC) upon hire.
- Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100, 200, 700, and 800 – Hazardous Materials Awareness upon hire.
