Weekend Coverage -- Saturday and Sunday Night Shift Summary Job Overview: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an independent health care provider who coordinates care through collaboration with the attending Physician The PA or APN provides care in accordance with the objectives policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee The main function of this role is to provide consistent, high-quality perioperative/postoperative care for all surgery patients The APP will be expected to function as an active member of the surgery patient care team Responsibilities include surgical first assisting, perioperative/postoperative management, hospital rounds on inpatients, and emergency room consultations The APP will be expected to work to the full extent of their licensure with an emphasis on supervised autonomy Qualifications Required (APN/NP): Current APN CertificationCurrent RN NJ state licenseCDSDEACurrent BLS/ACLSRNFA Certification *exception if Surgical NP certification has surgical assist built into program Required (Physician Assistant) Current Physician Assistant CertificationCDSDEACurrent BLS/ACLS Preferred Acute care certification3-5 years of acute care hospital experience Scheduling Requirements Scheduled as needed(Days, Night Shift, Weekends, Holidays)Per Diem Essential Functions Perform history and physical examinations in preparation for surgical proceduresOrder appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special diagnostic tests and interpret and report to surgical teamThe APP may be asked to see emergent consults in the ED and when appropriate treat conditions within the scope of the APP s practice and experienceCommunication of complicated surgical emergencies and appropriate preparation for surgery will also be expectedAssist with inpatient daily rounds as assignedThis can include insertion/discontinuing central lines including but not limited to chest tubes, arterial lines, wound dressing changes, bed side procedure, insertion of temporary dialysis catheters, daily physical exams, and addressing any concerns of the patients on the serviceThoroughly explains procedures to patients prior to testingPerform appropriate interpretation of laboratory/diagnostic testingResponsible for discharging patients in collaboration with the attendingDemonstrates strong organizational skills, communicates effectively and demonstrates time managementPerforms duties independently and coordinates care with the bedside nurse, attending physician, and other consulting providersCompassionately interacts with patients across different areas of care Additional Information Benefits and Perks: At RWJBarnabasHealth, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees’ physical, emotional, social, and financial health.
