About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an independent health care provider who coordinates care through collaboration with the attending Physician. The PA or APN provides care in accordance with the objectives policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, high-quality perioperative/postoperative care for all surgery patients
  • Function as an active member of the surgery patient care team
  • Surgical first assisting
  • Perioperative/postoperative management
  • Hospital rounds on inpatients
  • Emergency room consultations
  • Work to the full extent of licensure with an emphasis on supervised autonomy
  • Perform history and physical examinations in preparation for surgical procedures
  • Order appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special diagnostic tests and interpret and report to surgical team
  • See emergent consults in the ED and when appropriate treat conditions within the scope of the APP's practice and experience
  • Communicate complicated surgical emergencies and prepare for surgery
  • Assist with inpatient daily rounds as assigned, including insertion/discontinuing central lines including but not limited to chest tubes, arterial lines, wound dressing changes, bed side procedures, insertion of temporary dialysis catheters, daily physical exams, and addressing any concerns of the patients on the service
  • Thoroughly explain procedures to patients prior to testing
  • Perform appropriate interpretation of laboratory/diagnostic testing
  • Responsible for discharging patients in collaboration with the attending
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, communicate effectively and demonstrate time management
  • Perform duties independently and coordinate care with the bedside nurse, attending physician, and other consulting providers
  • Compassionately interact with patients across different areas of care

Qualifications

Required (APN/NP):

  • Current APN Certification
  • Current RN NJ state license
  • CDS
  • DEA
  • Current BLS/ACLS
  • RNFA Certification (exception if Surgical NP certification has surgical assist built into program)

Required (Physician Assistant):

  • Current Physician Assistant Certification
  • CDS
  • DEA
  • Current BLS/ACLS

Preferred:

  • Acute care certification
  • 3-5 years of acute care hospital experience

Schedule

  • Rotating schedule (Days, Night Shift, Weekends, Holidays)
  • 3 shifts per week (13.5 hour shifts)

Pay

$125,000.00 - $195,000.00 per year
