Advance Practice Provider, Arnold Palmer Hospital Pediatrics - Hematology/ Oncology

Position Summary

In collaboration with a physician, and according to the collaborative practice protocol, this position provides inpatient management, consultations, and co-management of medical and surgical patients at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

Responsibilities

• Affords assessments of the physical and psychosocial status of patients via interview, health history, physical examination, diagnostic studies, and recognizes deviations from the normal.
• Develops diagnoses and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implement the treatment plan.
• Executes complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed, in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
• Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission, and discharge care in accordance with evidence-based medicine.
• Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care and outcomes.
• Drafts and documents in an accurate and timely manner.
• Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds.
• Participates in the department weekend/holiday rounding as required.
• Supports IRB-approved clinical research/trials through various activities including but not limited to ordering diagnostic tests, prescreening patients, recording laboratory and diagnostic results, administering therapeutic interventions per trial protocols, and documenting outcomes per hospital and trial protocols.
• Uses clinical judgment and evidence-based medicine to order and schedule appropriate lab and radiology studies.
• Works with supervising physician to determine and place appropriate specialty consultations.
• Removes catheters, drains, sutures, and staples.
• Assesses patient for changes in status and capable of instituting appropriate interventions in sub-acute, acute, and emergent situations.
• Notifies attending physician about unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation.
• Prescribes medications using evidence-based medicine, clinical judgment, and plan of care as discussed in rounds with attending physician.
• Writes and/or dictates concise, thorough patient progress notes, consult notes, history and physical notes, and clinical resumes.

Qualifications

• Nurse Practitioner: MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing. APRN license in the state of Florida. National advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board. Current BLS certification.
• Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited physician assistant program. Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida. Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.
