Duties

  • Uses advanced clinical judgement to independently provide evidence-based treatment to Veterans with Cardiac health conditions with an emphasis on using evidence-based practice.
  • Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal disease management.
  • Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services.
  • Provides education to patients and their families.
  • Affasses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Core functions

  • Works within the scope of advanced practice nurse (APN) and certified nurse practitioner (NP) privileges.
  • Has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in managing patients with a variety of cardiac clinical issues - including but not limited to arrhythmias, heart failure, cardiac implantable electronic devices, and coronary artery disease.
  • Experience working in an outpatient cardiology clinic or similar environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high patient care standards.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking abilities.
  • Familiarity with using and interpreting cardiovascular diagnostic tools and imaging techniques such as EKG, echocardiography, and stress testing.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle a busy outpatient clinic setting.
