About the role

This position is open to the public and Veterans Preference will NOT be taken into account. This is an Open Continuous Announcement and due to the amount of candidates that apply for these positions, candidates will be referred on a first come, first serve basis.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule appointments timely and accurately.
  • Optimize and support team needs through review of appointment schedules.
  • Screen incoming calls and collect, compile, and track data.
  • Input data into an automated tracking system.
  • Process incoming and outgoing materials including Release of Information, Reports, Memoranda, CPRS/VISTA, and Purchase Orders.
  • Monitor and track service vehicle, office supply, and equipment usage.
  • Inform supervisor of important office issues during their absence.
  • May serve as timekeeper and ADPAC.

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must be able to operate computerized programs and systems to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying information.
  • Must be able to schedule medical appointments in a clinical setting.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally in person, electronically, and/or by telephone, with internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to identify customer concerns and refer to the appropriate staff for a satisfactory resolution.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-5, or one year of education above high school, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.
  • Must be able to operate computerized programs and systems to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying information.
  • Must be able to schedule medical appointments in a clinical setting.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally in person, electronically, and/or by telephone, with internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to identify customer concerns and refer to the appropriate staff for a satisfactory resolution.

Pay

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6.

Schedule

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday - Friday (schedules will vary; may be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays depending on department need)

Physical Requirements

The work requires some physical exertion, such as extended periods of walking while making clinical rounds or making contacts with other services of the Medical Center. There are also some requirements for standing, twisting, bending, sitting, and carrying of supplies. Must be able to lift (30 lbs.) and carry short distances.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
