Adult Respite Caregiver

About the role

We are seeking two dependable and patient caregivers to provide in-home respite care for our adult son, Kirin, who is 20 years old, in Spring Lake, North Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Prepare simple meals, snacks, and drinks
• Provide minimal bathroom assistance
• Charge electronic devices
• Maintain Kirin’s routine
• Offer attentive supervision; remain awake, attentive, and available throughout shifts

Requirements

• Flexibility and strong de-escalation skills
• Composure when interacting with an autistic, mostly nonverbal adult
• Comfort with cats in the home
• Comfort with a home monitored by 24/7 security cameras
• Enrolled with or willing to onboard through an agency authorized to provide NC Innovations Waiver services

Schedule

Most assignments will be long weekends approximately once every two months, generally spanning from Thursday afternoon to Monday evening, with occasional needs for longer durations up to a week and some daytime hours.

Pay

• Approximately $16 per hour through the agency for authorized hours
• Additional private supplementation brings total pay to approximately $26 per hour during day and evening hours and $31 per hour overnight, paid in cash

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with autism, developmental disabilities, respite care, de-escalation, or overnight work
