About the role

The Wyoming Department of Corrections seeks a Probation and Parole Agent to join the Field Services Division in Worland, Wyoming. This division focuses on community supervision and case management of probationers and parolees, contributing to public safety and offender rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

• Utilize validated risk and needs assessments to determine appropriate supervision levels and develop individual case planning goals.
• Collaborate with government and private entities to enhance case management and support offender behavior change.
• Identify external and internal motivators of change through motivational interviewing and additional interviewing techniques to assist in case plan development.
• Understand intervention, incentives, and sanctions within the criminal justice system and apply them to achieve desired behaviors.
• Facilitate cognitive intervention groups and alternative evidence-based cognitive interventions to enhance client motivation.
• Maintain supervision standards to promote public safety and help offenders re-socialize and reintegrate into the community.
• Maintain documentation of all case management collaborative efforts in a case management system.
• Conduct visits with clients in various settings to verify compliance and support positive behavior.
• Supervise a caseload of adult probationers and parolees, including misdemeanor and felony cases, such as alcohol or drug offenses, sex offenses, domestic violence, theft, burglary, and clients determined not guilty due to mental illness.
• Create a positive and collaborative environment for clients to gain confidence in changing their behavior.
• Maintain supervision standards to include documentation and collateral contacts promoting public safety and client accountability.
• Collaborate with the Prison Division to develop positive and effective reentry plans for inmates transitioning into the community.
• Write reports to the Parole Board, Courts, or other stakeholders, requiring investigation, insight, and analysis with assistance from various agencies, individuals, and assessments.
• Interview, evaluate, and conduct investigations into the offender's background and criminal history to determine their risks and needs.
• Interview victims for presentence investigation reports, determine restitution, and make recommendations to the Court, as well as contact victims for educational and safety purposes.

Qualifications

• PREFERENCES: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, in Social Work, Counseling, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Administration of Justice with progressive work experience in Probation and Parole.
• Experience in case management practices, risk/need assessments, cognitive skills group facilitation, effective interpersonal communication strategies, conducting investigations, report writing, and understanding of behavioral change.
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system, department policies, and procedures; human behavior, crisis behavior, substance use, abuse & addiction; criminal and legal law; procedures used in criminal justice agencies and cognitive behavior programs; various computer software programs, Google, and Microsoft.
• Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with offenders and other professionals; exercise good judgment in decision-making under stress; analyze information from various sources; interpret information from risk/needs assessments and case planning tools; engage others in innovative solutions; create and implement new concepts and ideas; organize, manage time, facilitate group activities, and solve problems.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $48,000 to $60,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with some flexibility and potential for rotating shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
