About the role

The Guidance Center is a leading provider of services aimed at enhancing the lives of children, adults, and families. Established in 1958, the organization offers 25 programs serving over 14,200 individuals annually through treatment, prevention, growth, and education services.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the delivery of clinical services, including intake evaluations and direct treatment for adults and families.
  • Assess and document the needs of clients using Person-Centered Planning principles.
  • Provide individual and group therapy.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, school personnel, and other family service or support people.
  • Maintain State licensure and comply with contractual requirements of funding sources and/or agency.
  • Attend clinical supervision, team meetings, and case consultations.
  • Complete clinical records and agency documentation in a timely manner.
  • Follow a professional code of ethics.
  • Coordinate effective discharge planning before case closure.
  • Complete 24 hours of training in the treatment of adults with mental health and/or co-occurring substance abuse disorders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling with corresponding State of Michigan licensure (minimum requirement).
  • Candidates without a state license can be considered but must obtain licensure within a 60-day training period, which may be extended by up to an additional 60 days.
  • Obtain the Qualified Mental Health Professional credential within 120 days of hire.
  • One year of experience treating or working with people diagnosed with mental illness.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Ability to engage and maintain therapeutic relationships with youth and families in various treatment modes.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with other unit staff and providers.
  • Willingness to be flexible.
