Adult ESL Mental Health Clinician

About the role

Framingham Adult ESL Plus is a part-time, grant-funded program that offers classes at no cost to adult learners in the Metrowest area. The program offers morning and evening classes in English as a Second Language, High School Equivalency, and Citizenship, both In-Person and Online.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional mental health services, including clinical and casework, as well as counseling and treatment for adult students.
• Collaborate with other professionals as a team member.
• Participate in evaluative and diagnostic staff conferences.
• Make referrals to appropriate professionals, outside agencies, or specialized services.
• Prepare written and statistical reports.
• Operate a personal computer and other office equipment.
• Communicate effectively with others in person, over the phone, and via remote platforms.
• Analyze data, interpret directions, procedures, and regulations, and develop appropriate responses.
• Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and county regulations.
• Make presentations as needed and may be assigned lead or special work coordination responsibilities.

Requirements

• Massachusetts Psychologist License (current or pending).
• Training and experience in clinical and casework services.
• Insight into mental and emotional disturbances and mental health education principles.
• Understanding of theories and causes related to substance abuse.
• Knowledge of various treatment approaches for mental and emotional issues.
• Awareness of available mental health and social service agencies.
• Familiarity with trends in mental hygiene, mental health, public health, and relevant State and Federal programs.

• Proficiency in using technology and willingness to learn new tools; ability to operate a computer and utilize software, including Google Workspace for Education.
• Willingness to plan, coordinate, and participate in ongoing professional learning, coaching, and staff development.
• Experience in evaluating student skills, interpreting assessment data, and writing clear, concise reports.
• Strong collaborative, instructional, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming.
• Ability to use data effectively to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
• Knowledge of specialized content areas, relevant laws, and educational procedures.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons that align with district and school goals.
• Proficiency in integrating instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.
• A proactive, reflective, and solution-focused approach to supporting student growth and success.

Physical Working Conditions

Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties. May be required to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. Must interact with students, parents, and staff and meet multiple demands. While most of the workday is spent inside, must spend time outdoors for recess and special activities. May be exposed to bodily fluids, disease, or pathogens. May receive injuries from aggressive students. May require physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling behavior.
