JOB DUTIES
The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
- Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
- Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
- Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

REQUIREMENTS
- A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university;
- Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
- SPECIAL NOTE: Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate.

- BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT: The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.
- EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY: The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) only hires U.S. citizens and those authorized to work in the U.S. FDC uses E-Verify to confirm an employee’s eligibility to work after completing the I-9 form.
- VETERANS’ PREFERENCE: Pursuant to Chapter 295, Florida Statutes, candidates eligible for Veterans’ Preference will receive preference in employment for Career Service vacancies and are encouraged to apply. Certain service members may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements.
