Essential Tasks Of The Position
- Plan and deliver relevant, standards-based lessons aligned to student needs and course objectives.
- Monitor and assess student performance to inform instruction and support credit attainment.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including whole group, small group, individualized instruction, and technology-based learning tools to support student progress.
- Create and maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and persistence.
- Maintain accurate and timely student records, including registration, attendance, and assessment data.
- Implement effective classroom management practices that support a productive learning environment.
- Model and reinforce appropriate use of educational technology and ethical practices.
- Collaborate with program staff and participate in curriculum development and program improvement efforts.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and alternative instructional strategies for adult and at-risk learners.
- Ability to teach students with diverse academic levels, backgrounds, and learning needs in a multi-level classroom.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students of varying ages and abilities.
- Strong instructional planning and classroom management skills.
- Proficiency in using instructional technology and educational software.
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and program leadership.
- Commitment to fostering student engagement, persistence, and academic success.
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience preferred, particularly with adult learners or alternative education settings.
- Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate (4/7-12 subject area required).
- Ability to obtain or hold a valid High School Credit Diploma Program (106) endorsement.
Reports To
Assistant Director or Coordinator of Family Literacy and Multilingual Learner Programs for Adult Education AND Regional Director of Adult and Continuing Education
Work Schedule
Credit Diploma Programming runs various classes throughout the year; teachers are needed for the following:
- Term 1: September 14-October 16
- Term 2: October 28-December 2
- Term 3: December 15- January 28
- Term 4: February 17-March 18
- Term 5: April 5-May 11
- Weekend Seminar Classes (Hybrid, Project-Based): Students attend two (2) weekend days, either on consecutive Saturday/Sunday or across two weekends:
- October 17 & 18
- November 7 & 8
- December 5 & 6
- January 9 & 10
- January 23 & 24
- February 6 & 7
- March 6 & 7
- April 3 & 4
- May 1 & 2
Compensation
- Term classes: $1,721/class
- Weekend seminar classes: $1,752/class
