Job Summary

Adult Education Teacher teaches English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency preparation, and/or Digital Literacy. Works under the direction of the Coordinator of Adult and Family Programs and is responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs and providing instruction in accordance with the District-approved course outline.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Meet all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and provide instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the District-approved course outline.
  • Use teaching methods and media designed to reach learners of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each learner the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.
  • Inform students of course requirements through a course syllabus, including specific objectives, means of attaining objectives, and methods of instruction.
  • Maintain appropriate proficiency and up-to-date knowledge in the subject matter area.
  • Writes lesson plans, grades assignments, and advises students.
  • Administers learner intake and skills assessment testing; Evaluate learners on a continuing basis to allow them to be aware of their own progress.
  • Completes periodic assessment and evaluation of learners' skills acquisition.
  • Maintain and submit records as required by policy and procedures; Prepares monthly department reports.
  • Recommend instructional materials, textbooks, appropriate instructional equipment, and supportive reference materials.
  • Participate in informational outreach activities regarding Harrison School District Two's adult education services.
  • Promote equal opportunity education within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
  • Enters instructional hours and monitors assessment data in LACES databases.
  • Demonstrate evidence and understanding of the concepts of diversity and multiculturalism and their application in the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's degree in TESOL, education, or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of full-time or part-time classroom experience teaching adults is preferred.
  • Certification in Colorado Adult Basic Education is preferred but not required.
  • Transcripts required.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
